There's at least one thing Jaswant Singh has said about Partition that is correct -- far from ensuring peace and communal harmony, it actually worsened the situation and left both India and Pakistan a legacy of hate and mistrust. It ensured that two poor nations would engage in an arms race neither could really afford, culminating in their acquiring nuclear weapons. And the unfinished agenda of Partition still festers, in the form of Kashmir.
